Easter Basket

Are you a slacker like me and waited until the week of Easter to get a basket for your little one? Baskets can be so expensive, so I had dreams of making Payton a fabric Easter basket, but didn't know what I was doing and couldn't find fabric I was "in love with" that I wanted to attempt making into a basket. Last night I was at Hobby Lobby and all of their Easter baskets were 50% off. I found a cute plain pink felt Easter basket for only $3.00 after the discount, but it was kind of boring...

(I didn't take before pictures...)

With a few scraps of fabric and some ribbon and Payton has a one of a kind Easter basket, that isn't made of wicker so she can't break it!

It's simple, but that's the way I like it!

If you need an Easter basket, hurry and check your local Hobby Lobby! They had quite a few cute ones to choose from that didn't need any embellishing!

Appliqued Frame

Last week my husband was looking through pictures on our computer and mentioned he wanted a copy of picture I caught of him tickling my daughter. His birthday was the next day so I got this grand idea to try and make a frame for him and put the picture inside. I don't do well with last minute projects, especially when I already have a hundred things planned for that day. The frame wound up being more for my daughter's room...and I never finished it in time, I didn't have the time or all the paper I wanted to use for it that day. I ended up showing him the unfinished frame and gave him a wallet size copy of the print along with his other birthday gifts.

Today I decided to pull out my cricut machine and finish the frame. I still hadn't bought the paper I had in mind, but I had some fabric on hand that I liked and some fabric fuse. I'm sure there would have been an easier way to do all this, but I just wanted to get that frame finished!

First I cut a strip of fabric fuse to 8.5 x 11". I put it through the cricut ('bumpy' side up) using my "opposites attract" cartridge and cut out the words "Daddy's Girl". I was a little nervous that the "fuse" part would seperate from the paper, but it held up nicely! I placed the cut out letters on the fabric, fuse side down.

After ironing them to the fabric, I cut each letter out...this is the part that would have been easier if I tried ironing the fuse to the fabric FIRST and THEN cut out the letters, but I didn't want to waste any fabric and I didn't know how the material would cut in the cricut. (anyone know??)

After cutting all the letters out I placed them where I wanted on the frame and carefully ironed them...

The 'a' shifted in the process, and Girl didn't fit as well as I would have liked...

But as The Nester says "It Doesn't Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful".

Another Project in the Works!

This crib bumper took quite the beating from Payton! When she started to rip it away from the ties months ago, I took it out her crib and have been trying to decide what to do with it since. I've heard people turn them into a valence, but to be honest, I'm not a big valence fan! I pulled it today and finally started to do something with it!

Any guesses what I'm doing with it????

From Drab to Shab!

I'm loving this one! I've had supplies for weeks now to make a new flower/bow holder! I've been itching to play with mod podge! It's been too long...

I started to tear the paper and realized rather than tearing the backside where I could blend it in, I liked the rough teared edged showing!

See what I mean....

Then I was stuck on what to do...but a bit of ribbon and buttons can fix anything!

And then I was stuck again...should I paint the top?? Nah, you can never have too much ribbon!

Call me cocky, but I didn't realize how stinkin' cute this was going to be in my daughters room!

I'll be adding a listing to my shop for a CUSTOM made flower/bow holder, this one's mine to keep! Check my shop soon if you want one! Now if I was clever enough to come up with a better title that flower/bow holder! Any suggestions are welcome!

Feeling a Bit Distressed

I have felt a bit distracted all day so if this post is all over the place, which I have a feeling it will be, I'm sorry!

Today I started going through things in our house, clearing out stuff we don't need or never use. We keep saying we are going to have a yard sale, but I hate the hassle of them. Maybe we will eventually. I went to Deborah's moving sale and sold some stuff, and it wasn't that bad...

When I was going through stuff I came across two things:

1. An old bath towel rack I bought in college. Me and my room mate felt crafty one day so we went and bought these wood ready to finish towel racks. We didn't need it when we moved in here, so I removed the hooks intending to do something with it. Well...I never did!

2. A box I had got for another craft project. I was supposed to go to Deborah's with my friend Emilee and decoupage these wood boxes. Well, plans fell through that night and we never did. I had bought a box for her to do too...and it has sat on my closet shelf ever since.

At this point in my clearing out rampage, I got distracted.

The other night I bought some new supplies to do an order I got and one of the items I bought was a new paint brush. It was only 99 cents at JoAnns, but call me a dork, I'm in love with it! The bristles are perfect on it. I've been taking every chance I get to use it. Now I will stop rambling and get to the point...

I have no idea what pictures to put in the two spots, or where I am going to put this box, it will probably go back up on the same shelf it came from, but I had fun finishing it, or maybe it will end up on etsy, we'll see!

Across from the shelf in the bathroom there is a matching cabinet above the toilet. I looked back and forth at the two seriously tempted to bring in my brush and stain and distress the heck out of them, but I didn't, yet...

Distressing is something I don't think you can mess up! It's SUPPOSED to look old and warn. All you need is some stain, I used a waterbase stain in walnut by folkart for these, and good DRY paint brush, and some old rags or paper towels. I just dab my brush into a little bit of stain, brush some off and go at it! You can lightly brush over the whole thing or just a few parts. I like to go back with a little bit of stain on a paper and rub it over the corners and creases that I want to accent. Seriously there is no messing up here! If you are nervous, keep an old wet cloth on hand in case you need to quickly wipe off the stain.

I have a set of barn stars with distress written all over them, but I have plenty to do this weekend...another day...
